Stump Grinding

Stump Grinding

Between the older residential streets near the Terry Depot and the newer subdivisions growing out toward I-55, stumps show up on properties of all ages across Hinds County. Some are left over from a tree that came down in a storm years ago. Some are from a removal job where the stump just never got addressed. In Mississippi’s climate, what starts as an inconvenience becomes a pest problem faster than most homeowners expect. Decaying wood in the heat and humidity of a central Mississippi summer is exactly what termites and wood-boring insects are looking for.

How we work

We grind below grade so the area is genuinely ready for what comes next.

Grinding to ground level leaves the root flare and surface roots in place and still causes problems for anything you plant or pave over. We go below the surface so whether you are laying sod, putting in a new planting, or pouring concrete, the area is actually ready.

You decide what happens to the chips.

Grinding produces a pile of wood chips. You can use them as mulch, leave them on site, or we haul them off. We ask before we start so they end up where you want them.

Questions About This Service

Do you grind all tree species?
Yes. All common Mississippi species including oaks, pines, sweet gums, magnolias, and others. Harder species take a bit longer but we handle them all.
How deep do you grind?
Typically six to twelve inches below grade, enough for replanting grass or new plants. If you are pouring concrete or building over the area, let us know and we will go deeper.
Can you work close to a fence or structure?
Yes. We position the equipment carefully in tight spaces. Tell us what is nearby when you call so we can plan accordingly.
Will grinding kill the roots?
It removes the stump and the surface root mass. Deep lateral roots stay in the ground but decay over time without the trunk. If roots near a foundation are a concern, full extraction may be a better option.
How long does it take?
Most residential stumps take between 30 minutes and a couple of hours depending on size and species.
What does it cost?
Depends on the diameter and species. We give you a firm price after seeing it. Call (601) 327-8552 for a free estimate.
